The website was launched in July 2000. They are now the largest online personalised cards retailer in Europe. Sales are approximately £90m and growing.

Moonpig owns their supply chain end to end by manufacturing and printing the products they sell via the web and mobile.

The Brief

Due to continued growth and the need to attract talent in the UK, the CTO was tasked with driving innovation through technology. With this in mind and following insight provided by Uniting Ambition regarding the North West market, Moonpig made a strategic decision to open a new office based in Manchester for their new Software Engineering team. The team are responsible for greenfield, innovative development and evolving their current landscape to a Microservices technology platform.

Uniting Ambition partnered with Moonpig to support the creation of the new team of 50 Software Engineers in Manchester.

Due to the competitive market within the North West and scale of recruitment needed, Uniting Ambition was presented with a number of challenges around culture, and availability of top quartile talent.


The Solution

Uniting Ambition worked closely with the CTO, Director of Software Engineering and the Head of Talent to help to build a high performing team. The Technology stack was working predominately across REACT, C#.net, Microservices, AWS.

The 50 roles covered:

  • Principal Software Engineers
  • Software Engineering Managers
  • Senior Software Engineers
  • Software Engineers

The Outcome

The Manchester team is successfully building, and a number of our candidates have since been promoted as they have continued to add value to the team and the company's P&L. Uniting Ambition have since been introduced to the London teams to help to build the teams further.
